Well clearly you fail to understand the ethical and logical problems that arise from protesting rule/ law enforcement with the backing argument of censorship of the chat channel, or implying there should be restrictions inplace on discussion topics!

You lost all logical grounds for debate with the above quoted quote.

But Congrats, funniest thread in ages.

I really love the Orwellian addition, but sadly again you fail to understand the reality. Read the EULA! Guild Wars isn't a 'Free-society', by the very definition of the software and legal implications.
You are able to play only because Anet and its fellow companies ALLOW you to. Everything related to the game remains the property of Anet. The only rights you have are the right Anet ALLOWs you to exercise.

It is really ironic you describe the enforcement of a spam rule that has existed since the game was released to the public as Orwellian; when the society/ enviroment (game) was never open or un restricted.

But please do keep the debate raging, hopefully in the same logic lacking style, I am enjoying the comical nature.

That won't fix bots that type 'WTS: [xxx]' when the player presses a preset key.

I couldn't post until yet. I was too busy savoring the feeling of satisfaction. Year after year of pure utter chat terror from Tradespammers have finally come to an end. And rightfully so. I've got no pity for those that were banned in the process, countless were the times where your kind has been asked to use the Tradechat and all that you people were capable of replying with was "STFU Noob".
You've been asked in a friendly way so many times, you have also been cursed and flamed at so many times that you basically have just shown one thing: You don't give a ****ing damn. Good for you. Good for us. Because you're the banned one now.

It's bizzare how some people think that the enforcement of laws is somehow dictorial, and that enforcement should not be implemented.

Any kind of law inforcement can become onerous or abusive, and some methods of enforcement can be implemented too far, however, that does not imply that enforcement should be stopped.

It has always been against the rules to spam trade in local, the majority of the community has complained about this, as it interfears with any kind of communication in local, whether that comunication is sensible or not is irrelevant, and there are rules about abusive communication. There are no rules about forming teams in local, while there may be a system for doing it now outwith it I can;t imagine that Anet is going to implement this ruling to that, there are no overwhelming complants from the community about it.

People going on runs may be punished however, if they are exchanging money for it, that to my mind would come under trade would it not?

Maybe people should have one thing in mind with this enforcement of the rules, think of how this would work in criminal law

What is being suggested is that enforcemnt of the rules should not occur, therefore people with this attitude would think that in society rules should not be enforced by the police, therefore if someone comits a crime that breaks the rules they should not be detected and punished, therefore in extreme cases these people are saying that murderers, terrorists, rapists, and abusers should be allowed to do as they please should not be stopped or punished.

Everybody is free to do as they please in any society, however that is not to say that they must suffer the consequences of their actions. Criminals are punished for their crimes when detected and caught, trade spammers are finally suffereing the same fate, making out that doing this is Orwellian, dictorial, or facist is nonsensical, unless you don't care about having any kind of structure to society

Default RE: Policing of Local Channel...very Orwellian

Complete and utter nonsense, it's not different than if you tell some person that he should pick up his dogs sh*t and not leave it on the pavement.

But I can't help but be amused over people that are truly offende over this change, I love seeing them foaming at the mouth and calling it a witch hunt when it isn't.

There is nothing wrong with this change. If you understood english properly, you would realize the "trade" channel is indeed for trade...

Wow, the OP must be pretty smart, drawing parallels to Orwell's 1984 and speculating, based on meticulous research and musing I'm sure, that even more oppressive features are just over the horizon.

I fail to see why people are justifying this crap rule with "people wanted it". Hey people have been wanting an auction house and a better trade system A LOT longer than this and those haven't shown up...

I stick with my point...fix the trade system. Don't ban people for using the system that was created.

There you go, op, you came up with the solution to you own problem without realizing it.
The Guild and Alliance tabs are still trade-spammable, right? If you all think this is going too far then there shouldn't be any objections to using those channels to spam. RIGHT?

To those others who are crying about spam never being a problem anywhere but the 3 big towns, BULL.
I've been in towns that only had 2-5 other people in it and someone would warp in and spam their crap 30 times in 3 minutes. That's ****ing annoying, and I dare you to tell me different.

People aren't being banned for using the sytem they are being banned for abusing it & spamming the local chat, simple as that.

I have lost count of the number of times I turned on local chat to shout for a party only to see an endless wave of trade shite going on.
And it aint even as though it was one shout now n then, its usually..

wts...
wts...
wts...

Perhaps it wouldnt have been so bad if people just shouted once :/

Anyway those who don't like this are very likely to be the ones spamming trade & well....tough. You're a salesman or lady so use your selling skills & find another way.

*guru auctions* ...... *guru ventari sell*....... maybe even the TRADE CHAT :O

You don't think I came across as being fed up with all the local chat trade spammers at all do you? :P

Oh & if this gets rid of some bots too, then wooohooo

I look at Guild Wars as a country and ANET as the government. We are the people who vote as to what we like and dislike, and if enough of us vote one way or another, things change. There are also times when the government(ie, ANET) does not do what is popular, much like the real world government, we either live with or repetition the with want we want. The OP position about 1984 is off by a few years, he should have said 1776, We are a democracy here not an anarchy.

The preset key idea is raised because of the influx of keyboards that have programmable keys (Like the G 11 and G15 from logitech, and lesser extent Z-boards), They key preset additions are only going to be come more popular and evident.
Anets stance on the matter is if a person has to press a key to activate a preset combo then they are still playing, and are not infact employing 'bot' devices.

I myself use a G15, and before people suggest botting, I use the hot key functions preset into one programmable key, so I press one button to achieve ctrl + v.

HEHE I can hear the grinding of the logic mills from where I sit.

The problems in ALL chat are so much worse than I ever immagined as the new ban forces me to actually suffer through the mindless dialogue that some feel is prefferable to trade chat in ALL.

I surrender *white flag raises*. As a matter fo fact I DO know how to turn it off, which is what I always did BEFORE when I didnt want to be bothered. Funny no one else could think to do that but, alas I guess twas my original thought that perhaps other thinking individuals played as gamers and saw as I did, that this "fix" is nothing more than a petty band-aid applied to the emotional wounds of a disaffected few that found it hard to have their "meaningful conversations" out in the open, in an anonymous gaming community, where some 3 million others are made to bear witness.

To those that ripped me, it's all well taken and I can appreciate your point as I now will have to leave local off so as not to be sickened by the "important conversations" that so beautifl FLEW past before.

To those that got it, PM me as the "Hi Sang" that got me in local wont work any more.

As ever your humble and loyal GWer (flaws and all)...

Regards

SANG

And local chat is NOT the system that was created for trades. The trade channel is what was created for trades. So banning people for spamming trades in local chat is fair. Simple as that.

Somewhere up through these posts, someone said it, It's not just trade spammers getting warned/banned, it is ALL spammers. If one just posted their 'wares' just once, then people would have a chance to see it. It seems, many people think their item is more important to 'announce', that they drown out everyone else by SPAMMING.

No SPAM = No Ban.

I personally wouldn't mind seeing a 'Services' tab for those of us looking for or offering runs/guilds/power leveling, etc.
